INDIA, With a Population of more than One Billion people , is a Iron And Steel Deficit Country. Per Capita Consumption of Steel is quite low with respect to Developed Countries.
There is a tremendous scope for the development of basic infrastructure, So future of iron and steel trade and industry in India is bright. India has to import iron melting scraps to meet the requirements of induction/arc furnaces. It has to Import Re-rollable scraps for re-rolling mills. It also imports old ships for breaking in to melting scraps and re-rollable scraps. Annual defecit of these scraps is about Ten Million Tones.
India has spare capacity for Hot Rolled flat products. It exports hot rolled flat products to other countries viz U.S.A and European Union. Hardware Items and Pipes etc. are exported to almost whole of the World.
