Mandi Gobindgarh, popularly known as Mini STEEL TOWN of India, is Situated in the Punjab State of India. Punjab is one of the most prosperous state of India. Its Per Capita consumption of Steel is much higher than other states. It has sprang up on both the sides of the National Highway No. I within an area of about fifteen square kilometers.
Its is 65 Kms. from Ambala (Haryana). It is 50 Kms. from Ludhiana-the most developed Industrial hub of Northern India. Its is 60 Kms. from Chandigarh-the Capital of Punjab. Other States of India viz Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir are just 50 to 200 Kms. from this steel Town. Mandi Gobindgarh has emerged as the biggest market for iron and steel of Northern India due to this Strategic location.
This steel town has a population over seventy thousand. There are more than 350 Steel Re-Rolling Mills, about 60 Induction Furnaces and other allied industrial units like the Forging Plants, Foundries, Machine Plant and Tool manufacturers etc. Steel Industry has sound back of more than one thousand trade houses dealing in import of scraps, re-rollables, industrial inputs viz coal and oils and export of finished products viz rounds, bars, heavy rounds, angles, channels, girders, flats for Shuttering and conduit pipes etc.
